Beyonce's Formation music video brought up the issue of Black prejudice. In the past year, injustice and oppression was clearly seen as Black Americans were treated differently. This just shows that racial discrimination still exists in this world and has been around longer than people are aware of. Beyonce was probably prompted to release a music video with such concept as a way of showing the world that racial discrimination is something that can no longer be tolerated anymore.
The concept of the music video deserves to be pointed out. It was able to bring about a message so clear to the point that it has struck its viewers with awareness and even got itself an award. Music videos nowadays are made for the sake of expression, wherein people forget to bring the importance of context into the picture-- all for the sake of aesthetics, no context on hand. But Formation was different. It conveyed a current social issue that opened its viewers eyes-- Racial discrimination. It made people realize that black discrimination still exists. But it doesn't stop there. It was also time to stand up against it and take "Formation".
In her music video, we have seen that a majority of the characters were Black Americans shown through different themes representing that racial discrimination has been around even since the Victorian Era. Not only had she shown different pictures of the existence of discrimination through the video, she had also implied this blitz of White Supremacy. And with Beyonce being one of the most iconic and influential artists around, it was time to stand up against that, take "formation", and fight for equality; because in the end, we are all human beings made by the same God.
